Very possible. Wouldn't be the first time a host has played off people.
I could also see the following as factors:
1. Mitch was willing to work for cheap to have a home station for syndication.
2. They wanted a local drive-time but wanted experience above format fit ( ala hiring the ultra white Fish for a hip-hop station ) To be fair, how many actual liberals would be ready to handle 3 hours? They should have some no-budget weekend or off-hours show to build talent but almost no stations do that anymore. I feel like iheart is always one or two bad books away from a format change for that station anyway.
3. To piss off Sly.
4. Tim Scott has no idea how to manage talk.
