What? No, it's definitely not a fad. The reason why it seems like a fad was because too many GMs felt it was a cure all for shitty AM programming. It wasn't. The AM would flip formats too if they couldn't run it for peanuts or let someone else have it (or, in some cases, go dark).

But simulcasts are going to continue to be a thing for several reasons. Your signal coverage examples being one of them.
