Sorry, Charlie. Entercom today flipped five-year adult hits “Charlie FM” WCHY to hot AC as “Mix 105.1.” The station looks to carve a niche between Clear Channel’s top-rated CHR “Z-104” WZEE and Mid-West Family Broadcasting’s No. 2 ranked AC “Magic 98” WMGN. Until today the Madison market did not have a hot AC station.
“Right now there is a hole in the market for a station like Mix. The perfect mix of opportunity and timing could not be better for Mix 105.1,” market manager Michael Keck says in a statement. WCHY had a 2.9 share (12+) in Arbitron’s spring ratings survey.
WCHY re-launches with afternoon drive personalities “Slacker and Steve” as part of the mix. Their show also airs on Entercom’s hot AC “Alice 105.9” KALC, Denver. “Slacker and Steve will not only work in Madison, they will thrive,” Keck added. “We are also excited about the rest of our lineup which we will be announcing in the near future.” The station will be overseen by operations director David Moore.
